Working on projects that inform and inspire is always a pleasure for our team. Recently we worked with Louisville-based design firm Solid Light to produce a wide range of custom prints for the Discovery Park of America’s new permanent exhibit: Agriculture: Innovating for our Survival. This high tech exhibit showcases the history of farming innovation and looks forward into the future of agriculture.
“Much of the exhibit was designed with STEM-based learning in mind,” said Jennifer Wildes, Discovery Park’s senior director of collections and exhibits. “One of my favorite sections is about jobs in agriculture that we hope will inform our young visitors about opportunities they may want to consider when choosing a career.”
UV Prints for Unique Applications
Solid Light’s team worked with the Discovery Park of America to design a variety of unique elements that required creative printing solutions. We printed directly onto prepared wood panels using the latest in flatbed UV Printing technology to create a wide range of finished pieces for this exhibit. Some of the wood prints were produced for interactive sections of the exhibit, while others were printed on textured plywood panels and used as backdrops and design elements that give the exhibit rugged and tactile look. We also utilized UV printing to create text, photo, and graphic prints on plexiglass panels. Juxtaposed with the more rugged industrial materials, these plexiglass panels link our past to the present and evoke the sleek technological innovation of the future.
Our team used sublimation printing on ChromaLuxe MDF to produce many of the custom prints for this exhibit. This substrate is a high quality material that we can rely on for consistent color reproduction in photos and graphics. ChromaLuxe’s consistent quality and durability makes it the perfect substrate for exhibit elements that are meant for direct interaction with the public.
